Career Family Opportunity (CFO) is a pilot program of Crittenton Women’s Union that helps single parents build the foundation essential to achieving economic independence. This five-year program allows participants—called Career Family Organizers or CFOs— to proceed at their own pace as they gain the skills, knowledge and habits of a stable future.
CFOs achieve:
- A career path leading to a family-supporting job
- A savings account with three months’ worth of living expenses
How CFO works
Career Family Opportunity takes an innovative, comprehensive and personalized approach. We recognize each person brings a unique set of experiences, accomplishments, needs, and challenges to his or her journey to economic self-sufficiency. CFOs map out their individual education, career, and financial goals. Along the way, the program provides ongoing support and financial incentives and connects participants to the resources and professional help they need.CFO Mobility Mentors
CFOs work one-on-one with Mobility Mentors to determine their specific needs and establish goals. Mentors meet with CFOs regularly, offer guidance, direct them to valuable resources, and mark each participating family’s progress.
Individual CFO plans
Each CFO creates a practical, achievable plan to attain a family-sustaining job and build savings. With their Mobility Mentors, CFOs identify short- and long-term milestones and outline steps and a timeline to reach them.
The CFO Community
Every month, participants meet with their fellow CFOs who hold similar goals and interests. Participants trade information, share experiences, offer suggestions, and celebrate successes.
Financial rewards
CFOs earn financial rewards for reaching significant targets in their personal plan. In addition to cash incentives, CFOs are eligible for a matched savings program, enabling them to build up reserve funds faster.
