Childrens Programming Assistant

Position Description: The Children's Programming Assistant will support Supervisor of Children's Programming. S/he will help to research, develop, and lead enriching activities for the children at the Hastings House, a 58-family shelter in Brighton. Children are aged infant to early teens.
Volunteer duties will include:
- Research and contact potential partners to lead activities.
- Assist in coordinating volunteers.
- Lead some activities for the children. Activities could include:
- Reading, writing, and/or literacy;
- Arts and crafts;
- Games and motor skills; and
- Parent/Child classes and Play Groups.
- Help keep the play space clean.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Passion for and experience with working with children

Institutional Advancement Intern

Position Description: Crittenton Women's Union (CWU) seeks a Development Intern for summer 2010. The Development Intern will be an important part of the CWU Institutional Advancement (IA) Team, providing support for the many fundraising responsibilities of the department. This is an excellent opportunity for an intern to learn about how nonprofit fundraising works and to gain applicable skills for future work in or around the nonprofit sector.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with national and local grant prospect research and recommendations
- Assisting with corporate philanthropy prospect research and recommendations
- Assisting with individual fundraising and donor appreciation event strategy, creation, research, and execution
- Drafting acknowledgements of corporate and foundation grants
- Assisting with fundraising database (Raiser's Edge) entry as needed – training will be available
- Overall support of the general operation of the IA Team
Requirements:
- A strong interest in Crittenton Women's Union's efforts to help low-income women become financially self-sufficient.
- Ability to work well independently and also as part of a team.

Position Description: The Human Resources Intern will assist the Human Resources Director and Human Resources Generalist in carrying out human resource functions. Will assist with many of the human resource related matters, including, but not limited to: personnel policies and procedures; employee benefits; employee relations; payroll affirmative action; staff orientation and training. The goal of the internship is to learn general office administrative processes of the human resources department. This will be accomplished by the following tasks: reviewing and auditing personnel files, Assist with training preparations; participate in preparing for new-employee orientation and packets; Update job descriptions; assists with position data clean-up.

Position Description: This intern will work closely with the Program Designer and Advisory Group of the Economic Mobility Institute (EMI)—a new program that will provide a vehicle for promoting economic mobility among all CWU participants and low-income women in the Boston community. The intern's primary responsibility will be to identify curriculums that can be used in CWU's adult training classes, and to help make these curriculums available to staff throughout the entire organization.
Specific Duties Include:
- Communicate with staff to identify and collect materials used in trainings for clients.
- Assist in the creation of a centralized means for staff to access classroom material.
- Provide administrative assistance by scanning, copying, filing, and organizing class materials and curriculums.
- Support the EMI Program Designer and Advisory Group during the continued development of a business plan and implementation strategy for the EMI. May include some writing and basic research.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable interacting with staff.
- Interest or background in adult education, teaching strategies, curriculum development, program design, and/or promoting economic mobility among low-income women.

Position Description: The Facilities and Operations Intern will work with the Director of Facilities and Operations in supporting the efforts of the Facilities Team. The intern will be responsible for building maintenance and repairs with a focus on safety and cleanliness. Tasks include: basic plumbing & electrical repairs, furniture moving, painting, plastering, carpentry, troubleshooting phone and computer problems etc.
Intern duties will include:
- Responsible for supporting of maintenance crew with a focus on safety and cleanliness in the Hastings House, including but not limited to: empty trash receptacles; mop and vacuum floors; shampoo carpets; wash, wax, buff floors; wash windows; woodwork, lighting fixtures and other projects as assigned throughout facility.
- Conduct regular rounds/walk-through of facility checking individual alarms, emergency lights, outside lights
- Perform daily cleanup and maintenance of grounds, parking area, and smoking area as needed; grass cutting and raking; snow and ice removal.
- Assists with routine and special projects to support the Facilities Department and the administrative operations of the organization.

Horizons Housing Program Intern

Position Description: Horizons, a domestic violence transitional housing program, is looking for an intern who is dedicated to assisting women and their families escape domestic violence and begin the road to self-sufficiency.
Intern Duties:
- Some office work including filing;
- Case Management including working one on one with clients and their children to help connect them to appropriate services and address their specific needs;
- Assisting in the play room with children as needed; and
- Assisting with calling housing authorities for follow up with clients.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Intern should possess knowledge of domestic violence learned either through coursework or prior experience;
- Case Management skills including ability to work with clients within appropriate boundaries and limit setting;
- Child Care knowledge and experience; and
- Ability to perform in a team setting.

The Career Family Opportunity (CFO) is an innovative pilot program developed by CWU to provide intensive supportive services over 60 months to 20 low-income public housing residents to assist in their journey towards economic independence. The program offers peer support, group training and education, as well as intensive individual mentoring.
Position Description: The CFO Intern will assist the Mobility Mentors and Coordinator in gathering information and working with the participants as they undertake their goal setting process. Intern will also work with the Affinity Groups and Community Group which are made up of participants by preparing materials, assisting with agendas, and participant outreach. Opportunity to learn the network of services in the South Boston neighborhood and to be part of the start up of a new and results oriented program. Knowledge and Skills Required- Strong written and verbal communications skills

- Strong organizational skills
- Case management experience preferred

Position Description: CWU Administration has a great opportunity for a fall intern to assist with the development of the organization's Continuity of Operations Plan's procedures and policies (emergency preparedness). This involves gathering information and data from a variety of sources both internal and external to the organization. Talking with community organizations and gathering information related to external resources. The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative and team environment and demonstrate responsibility to complete assigned tasks.
Specific duties include:
- Help complete the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
- Assist with development of binders, logs, and other emergency communication documents necessary to have a comprehensive and effective COOP.
- Interacting and connecting with local community organizations, transportation systems, and other identified entities needed to support the COOP.
